Opportunities

Open positions

The nonlinear photonics group at The University of Auckland (New Zealand) led by Stephane Coen, Miro Erkintalo, Stuart Murdoch, and Ray Xu has open positions for two PhD students (for 3 years) and one MSc student (for 1 year).

The successful candidates will join a vibrant group of researchers active in nonlinear fibre resonators and microresonators. Research will focus on experiments related to the generation of optical frequency combs and ultra-short trains of pulses in nonlinear resonators. The candidates will benefit from wider national collaborations with researchers from the Dodd Walls Centre (DWC) of Research Excellence which regroup several groups from various Universities in New Zealand.

We are seeking candidates comfortable with team work and with some prior background in one or more of the following fields: laser physics, nonlinear optics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics. Candidates for the PhD position should hold a degree in Physics or Engineering. Experience with experimental or numerical projects in optics is a plus.

Please contact Ray Xu (ray.xu@auckland.ac.nz) or Miro Erkintalo (m.erkintalo@auckland.ac.nz) for further information, or to send an application. Applications should include a CV, a cover letter, contact details of two or three references, and a copy of their latest transcript of records.
